Waking up to my calling…literally

It was a late Saturday morning where out of nowhere a thundering noise filled the skies and shook my windows as i laid on my bed half-asleep. Though I was drowsy, from the somewhat familiar sound my mind immediately knew what it was, and without a second to waste i jumped out of my bed and got on my two feet. Seconds later i found myself sprinting through my house and up towards my terrace, my heart was pounding and there was a weird feeling in my chest. My legs were quivering as i finally reached my terrace and looked up into the vast, blue sky with a glimmer of hope.

The expression of hope in my face turned into pure joy. My mouth slid into a wide gaping smile of pure elation, excitement and joy with a hint of disbelief and there i was, standing on the edge of my terrace, trembling, with my hands on my head, filled with pure shock and astonishment experiencing one of the biggest dreams of my life.

Up in the monumental, calm and empty sky was a fierce looking fighter jet piercing through the clouds and flying across at unbelievable speeds. My ears were overwhelmed by the deafening but oh-so gracious sound of a metal body traveling through the sky at immaculate speeds, and the roar of the thrusters was truly so exciting to me, it was perfect, it was absolutely perfect watching the jet zoom past the sky several times, perform mind-blowing maneuvers and exciting twists and turns. It was truly magnificent witnessing what mankind is capable of, and to me it was one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in my life. Within a few seconds the enthusiast in me identified the jet as the SU-30 and it was so gracious. The way it effortlessly glided through the sky and performed sharp turns with absolute ease was so stunning and the feeling of watching it fly past me combined with the ear-shattering sounds it created was a truly other-worldly experience.

A few minutes late the SU-30 flew into the clouds and never seemed to return, and so i waited patiently for a few minutes, and as i was sitting looking at the blank sky, out of nowhere a different fighter jet pierced the clouds and appeared in front of me. It only took me a few glances to recognize it and immediately i knew it was the indigenous LCA tejas, and oh my, the jet was absolutely stunning. Compared to the SU-30 it looked significantly smaller and more compact, and from my terrace it looked like a small little triangle. But this little triangle was even more effortlessly gliding through the sky and performing maneuvers and turns that the SU-30 could barely compete with. It flew upside down, sideways, it flew up into the sun, up into the clouds and it shot through the sky like a tiny bullet. It was absolutely exhilarating to watch it conquer the skies and seeing the jet through my own eyes was simply surreal.

As i watched the jets through the comfort of my terrace i realized what a privilege this is. I was witnessing one of my biggest dreams on a random morning, and it was at that moment that i also realized this was my calling. Being a aviation enthusiast since i was young i always wanted to be a pilot or work around planes but now after seeing the most elegant fighter jets through my own eyes i know for sure this is my calling, this is my destiny and this is truly what i want to do, to be around these beautiful machines and work with them all day would definitely be my biggest dream, and I’m sure one day, this dream will come true.

I was woken up by my calling…literally.
